FAI Referees Fees & Expenses 2022-24
Effective from June 1
st, 2022 until December 31st, 2024

INTRODUCTION

This agreement was reached through negotiations between the Irish Soccer Referees Society and the FAI Youth
and Amateur Committee on behalf of the Football Association of Ireland.
The agreement is in place for the period June 1st, 2022, until December 31st, 2024. This agreement will come in
force on June 1st, 2022 and operate until December 31st, 2024. It may be extended beyond that date with the
agreement of both parties. The increase in match fees shall come into effect June 1st, 2022.
This Agreement is binding on all FAI affiliates, leagues, clubs and referees and any breach should be reported in
writing to the FAI Youth & Amateur Committee and the Irish Soccer Referees Society.

Notes to Fees
Top Division Fee:
The Top Division Fee of €8 shall be payable for the following competitive matches:
• Top division in Junior League, where there is more than one division
• Top division in Women’s Leagues, where there is more than one division
• Half of this fee for assistant referees
The Top Division Fee of €7 shall be payable for the following competitive matches:
• Top division in Youth Leagues, where there is more than one youth division*
• Top division in Under 19 Leagues, where there is more than one under 19 division *
• Intermediate representative matches
• Junior representative matches
• Inter-provincial matches of the grades referred to above
• Only applies where promotion and relegation exist
• National agreement supersedes local agreements in national and provincial competitions

Meal Allowances:Meal
allowances shall be €30 for a round trip journey of 100 miles or more as per official FAI policy.
Urban Travel Allowance: The Urban Travel Allowance shall be €18 for a round trip of up to 25 miles.
Mileage Allowance: Where applicable, the Mileage Allowance for matches with a round trip above 25 miles shall
be at the official FAI rate, which is currently 50 cents per mile. The Urban Travel Rate shall apply for the first 25
miles. The mileage allowance of 50 cent per mile shall apply for every mile after 25 miles. The minimum amount
payable to a referee in travel expenses shall be €18. Where a referee officiates at subsequent matches at the
same venue / ground, the Mileage Allowance, if applicable and above €18, shall only apply to the first match.
Match Fee plus Urban Travel Allowance shall apply for the subsequent matches.
Pitch Inspection: The following flat fees shall apply for pitch inspections carried out at the request of the home
club or the competition organiser. Intermediate: €20, Junior/Youths: €15, Under 16 and below: €10.
Match Fees: Match fees to be paid before the game where practical
Cancellations:
(a) When a referee travels to an appointed game and the game is not played due to ground and/or weather
conditions, as determined by the match referee, half match fee, and full expenses to apply and to be paid
on the day.
(b) Where a referee travels to an appointed game, and only one team turns up, full fees and full expenses to
apply upon receipt and acceptance by the relevant governing body of the Match Referees Report.
(c) Where a referee travels or is travelling to an appointed game and that game is not played due to it being
previously cancelled by the appropriate authority, the relevant governing body shall determine, on receipt
of the Match Referees Report, if reasonable efforts were made by the relevant authority to notify the
referee. If they find this did not happen, then full fees and full expenses shall apply. Where a decision hasbeen made by a governing body to pay fees post-match to match officials then these shall be paid within
28 days (including Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays)
